The river goes past the Tetons. It travels all the way through the southern section of Idaho before reaching the state of Oregon. You can spend time on many different sections of this river. So, you will never find yourself out of your comfort zone.

The section of the Snake River that is closest to the Tetons for whitewater rafting is eight miles long. The entire eight-mile journey will have you conquering class two rapids that include Champagne, the Big Kahuna, and Lunch counter.

Benefits of Whitewater Rafting on the Snake River Adventures

  If you like adventure, you’re sure to like whitewater rafting. There is nothing boring about it. You’ll be kept busy paddling and experiencing the ride of your life. And it all comes with an excellent view of the Grand Teton Mountains.

• Family bonding. 

  Family river rafting is quality time together that doesn’t involve a screen. Working as a team to paddle your raft is one of the best ways to bond with each other, even siblings who seem to never get along. Children as young as 6 years old can participate in rafting when the water level is low enough.

Other Whitewater Rafting on Snake River Options

If you do not think you are ready for a whitewater rafting adventure, you can go on one of the scenic trips instead. Those scenic rides are also done in rafts. But you will not tackle the rapids like you would on the other tours.

These two types of Snake River tours are completed in one day. However, there are some options that will have you out on the water for a few days. One of those whitewater rafting adventures will take you down to Hell’s Canyon. This area of the river is the deepest gorge in the country. In some areas, the depth reaches seven thousand nine hundred feet.

Massive rockslides and huge boulders have ended up in the Hell’s Canyon section of the river and those items have created some of the best whitewater rapids within the Pacific Northwest. This adventure normally takes between four and five days, so you will want to plan your vacation accordingly.

At night, you will camp on sandy beaches. Plus, you will have enough downtime to do a few hikes along the way, while also swimming in the warm water of the river.

No matter which whitewater rafting, or non-whitewater rafting, tour you choose, you will be amazed at what you can see along the way. Snow-capped mountain peaks will lead to views of soaring eagles and wild mountain goats.

Located just north of Jackson, Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park has a diverse and long-standing history. That history includes human use from more than 11,000 years ago. Nomadic Indians, American Indian tribes, early American explorers and permanent settlers once called this national park home.

Teton Mountains are massive structures that were eventually used as a reason to create the Grand Teton National Park. There is so much to do within this park and the mountains. You must make sure you are prepared to spend a few days in this part of the country, so you can really appreciate the true beauty that is before you.

Go on a Scenic Drive Through Grand Teton National Park

One of the best ways to see the Tetons is to go on a scenic drive. This is an excellent way to get your bearings. Learn where everything is located. Plus, see a glimpse of what is waiting for you in the coming days. There are three different scenic drives. So, you can choose one or add them all into your itinerary. Teton Park Road goes along the base of the mountains from Moose to Jackson Lake Junction, while the Jenny Lake Scenic Drive offers spectacular views of the lake and the mountain peaks. The Signal Mountain Summit Road will take you high up towards the peak for some of the best views.

Go Hiking

Now that you will have seen some of Grand Teton National Park is from your scenic drive, you will have a better idea of where you want to go hiking. There are many different trails and they range in difficulty from easy to quite strenuous. A couple of my favorite hiking trails include the Jenny Lake Trail, Hidden Falls Trail, and the Lakeshore Trail. I do recommend that you check out the bear safety guidelines before you venture out, so you know what you must do if you encounter a bear along the way.

See the Wildlife from a Distance

Speaking of bears… There are many different types of wildlife to see when you are in Grand Teton National Park. A few of the animals you will see include moose, bison, elk, bighorn sheep, bobcats, mountain lions, grizzly bears, black bears, and wolves. You must stay at least one hundred yards away from many of these animals, although personally, I might stay even further away. While these animals are used to people being around, they are still wild and will not think twice of attacking if they feel threatened.

Go Out on the Water

There are many places where you can swim in the Tetons, but there are other ways to enjoy the water too. Water skiing and windsurfing are allowed on Jackson Lake, while canoes or kayaks are the only boats allowed on many of the other lakes. If you are looking for a different type of adventure, I recommend white water rafting. There are a few different rafting options, so we can easily find the one that will fit your needs perfectly.

Best Things to See as You Explore Yellowstone National Park

1. Old Faithful

No one can possibly visit Yellowstone National Park and not spend time at Old Faithful. In fact, most visitors like yourself will make sure this is the first thing on their list of things to do, so they do not run out of time! Old Faithful is the most famous geyser inside the park that erupts about 20 times per day. While there is no steadfast schedule for the eruptions, most of the time, Old Faithful erupts every sixty-five to ninety-one minutes. The eruptions last between one and a half minutes and five minutes. There are plenty of viewing spots so don’t worry about not seeing it.

2. Grand Prismatic Spring

The largest hot spring in the country is the Grand Prismatic Spring. The middle of the hot spring is bright blue, but the rest of the water is a rainbow of colors. Those rainbow colors change day to day and are dependent on the temperature of the water. This water is too hot to relax in, so please do not try to take a dip during your visit.

3. Paint Pots

The Gibbon Geyser Basin is not as active as many of the other basins in Yellowstone. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t appreciate the Paint Pots that are located there. The Paint Pots are a group of more than fifty geysers, springs, vents, and mud pots. You can see many of the Paint Pots sites by walking on a trail that is slightly longer than a half-mile.

4. Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Nothing can top the Grand Canyon out in Arizona, but the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone comes pretty close! This canyon is twenty miles long and is between eight hundred and twelve hundred feet deep. As for the width, it is between fifteen hundred and four thousand feet, depending on where you are looking. You must see this canyon from both the north and south sides if you truly want to appreciate the beauty. While you are visiting this area of the park, you must walk down the short pathway to the Lower Falls. The view of the rushing water from that spot is simply breathtaking.

These four things are not the only things you should add to your list when you are vacationing in Yellowstone. However, they are the four best things to see as you explore Yellowstone National Park.

This lake happens to be more than six thousand feet above sea level. It is fifteen miles long, seven miles wide, and more than four hundred feet deep. The water is usually cold in Jackson Lake, even in the middle of the summer months.

4 Amazing Things to Do at Jackson Lake

1. Fishing

With the Tetons rising above and forest all around, this is one of the most scenic spots to fish in the Jackson Hole area. The lake itself is often fished from boat or tube. However, the various inlets and tailwaters of Jackson Lake Dam, at the south end of the lake, hold plenty of fish to catch from shore. Fishing at Jackson Lake is incredible. You will leave the lake at the end of the day with enough fish for dinner. This lake is full of trout, salmon, and pike. You can fish all year long, except during the month of October. They don’t allow fishing during this month.

2. Enjoy a Few Water Sports

Boating of any kind is welcome on Jackson Lake. But you may also want to try a little water skiing, wakeboarding, and windsurfing during your visit as well. The only water sport you cannot do on this body of water is jet skiing. If you do not have a boat of your own, you can always rent a pontoon boat. Go out to explore the islands scattered throughout the lake. Just remember, the water in this lake is cold, so be prepared!

3. Relax at the Beach

Every once in a while, you need some downtime, and the best place to get it while in this part of the country is down at the beach! Simply wander down to the shoreline of Jackson Lake and set your towel or chair up for the day. You can gaze out over the water, or out towards the mountains, as you relax and let the stress melt away.

4. Take a Scenic Dinner Cruise

One of my favorite things to do out on Jackson Lake is taking a scenic dinner cruise. While you can take a scenic cruise at any time of the day, the best time is around dinnertime. As you are dining, you can learn about the history of the lake and the locals who live nearby. You will also be able to see all the gorgeous views, as the sun is setting in the sky. You can even take a dinner cruise that allows you to dine on one of the islands that are out in the lake if you are looking for something different.

These are four of the amazing things you can do at Jackson Lake, but there are so many other things that will keep you busy during your visit. This is one of the magical destinations you will want to visit this summer, or even next year, as you begin to explore this country from one end to the other.
