Family Friendly Cultural Activities for Your Next Vacation

Do Your Homework

Before you travel, spend some time learning about the destination’s culture and culinary traditions. Watch documentaries. Read books. And explore relevant social media content or blogs. This background knowledge will enhance your appreciation and excitement for what you’ll experience firsthand.

Of course, if I am planning your family vacation, I will share quite a few insights of what family friendly cultural activities you should be aware of while visiting a destination.

Check out my tips on how to plan a family vacation everyone will enjoy.

Participate in Cultural Activities

Look for activities that offer a deep dive into the local culture. This could be traditional music and dance performances. Craft workshops. Or local festivals. Participating in these activities not only supports the local economy but also provides a more authentic insight into the community’s way of life.

The best part is adding these family friendly cultural activities to your itinerary will enhance your vacation immensely.

Take Cooking Classes – A Yummy Family Friendly Cultural Activity

One of the best ways to connect with a culture is through its food. Enroll in cooking classes if available in your destination.

This not only teaches you and your older children how to make local dishes but also often includes visits to markets to buy ingredients, providing a fuller experience of the local food scene.

Use Local Guides

Hiring local guides can transform your travel experience. They provide insights and stories that are not available through standard tours or guidebooks. Local guides can also show you hidden gems of the city. Places off the beaten path that are beloved by locals but not well-known to tourists.

I can arrange for a local guided tour while I am planning your next family vacation. Perks like these are one of the many reasons why you should work with an expert travel advisor like myself while planning family trips.

Check out my tips of creating a flexible itinerary while traveling.

Dine at Local Eateries

Instead of heading to places that cater to tourists, eat where the locals eat. This might involve stepping out of your comfort zone. But it’s a valuable part of the travel experience. It’s here that you’ll likely find the most authentic and delicious dishes. Which are part of the family friendly cultural activities you will be searching for during your vacation.

Respect Local Customs and Etiquette

Understanding and respecting local customs and etiquette is crucial. This could pertain to dress codes, dining etiquette, or general behavior in public places. Showing respect for local customs not only prevents awkward situations but also enriches your interaction with locals.

Encourage Language Attempts

Even if you’re not fluent, trying to speak a few words in the local language can go a long way in showing respect and willingness to immerse yourselves in the culture. Encourage your teens and twentysomethings to learn basic greetings and phrases. It can make interactions more engaging and fun.

Check out these travel gadgets and apps that will make your vacation more tech friendly.

Visit Local Markets – A Must-Do Family Friendly Cultural Activity

Family Friendly Cultural Activities for Your Next Vacation

Local markets are hubs of culture and activity. They are perfect for observing local life and for trying local foods. Markets also often offer unique local crafts and products. This makes them ideal spots for picking up souvenirs that truly reflect the culture.

Document Your Experiences

Encourage your family to document their experiences. Whether through photos, videos, or journaling. This not only keeps memories alive but also encourages deeper engagement with the culture as they reflect on their experiences.

Be Open Minded and Curious While Planning Family Friendly Cultural Activities

Maintain an open and curious attitude throughout your travels. The willingness to learn and adapt can lead to the most memorable and transformative travel experiences.

Adding family friendly cultural activities to your itinerary is more than just a way to pass the time during a vacation. It’s an educational experience that can change the way young adults see the world. By engaging deeply with the destinations they visit, older teenagers and twentysomethings gain a richer, more meaningful understanding of diverse cultures and lifestyles. This not only makes the trip more enjoyable but also fosters a greater appreciation for global diversity.

In today’s digital age, staying connected is crucial, especially for older teenagers and twentysomethings. Ensuring your travel plans are tech-friendly not only keeps everyone happy but can also enhance your travel experience. Today, I am sharing some of the best travel gadgets and apps to ensure you experience tech-friendly family travel for every vacation you take.

Tech-Friendly Family Travel: Best Travel Gadgets and Apps

Tech-Friendly Family Travel: Best Travel Gadgets and Apps

Confirm Connectivity – My Biggest Tech-Friendly Family Travel Tip

Before booking your accommodations, confirm that they offer reliable Wi-Fi. After all, internet access is crucial for both entertainment and practical purposes. You will definitely want to check emails, update social media, contact friends, and even be prepared for emergency situations.

If your travel destination is known for spotty internet service, consider portable Wi-Fi devices or international data plans.

Smart Use of Smartphones

Smartphones are necessary for tech-friendly family travel. Encourage your teens and twentysomethings to download useful travel apps for navigation, language translation, local guides, and public transport schedules. Apps like Google Maps, Duolingo, or Citymapper can significantly smooth out travel logistics.

Check out these amazing apps for your next family vacation.

Bring Necessary Gadgets

Besides smartphones, consider other tech-friendly family travel gadgets that might be useful on your trip. A good-quality camera, portable power banks, and waterproof cases can be great additions. Make sure everyone has the necessary chargers and adapters for different types of outlets, especially when traveling internationally.

Use Technology for Safety

Leverage technology to enhance travel safety. Share your location with each other through apps like Find My Friends or WhatsApp. Discuss how to use technology in emergencies. Including which apps can help in different situations and how to contact local emergency services.

Digital Itineraries – A Must for Tech-Friendly Family Travel

Keep your travel plans accessible to everyone digitally. Tools like Google Docs, Trello, or shared calendars can help everyone stay on the same page about daily activities, reservations, and logistics. This is especially handy when plans change at the last minute.

Check out how to create a flexible itinerary for your next family vacation.

Entertainment on the Go

For long travel days, ensure everyone has downloaded entertainment options like e-books, music, movies, or podcasts. Streaming services like Spotify, Netflix, and Audible can be used offline if you download content in advance. All these tech-friendly family travel apps will help pass the time during flights, train rides, or road trips.

Educational Opportunities Through Technology

Tech-Friendly Family Travel: Best Travel Gadgets and Apps

Use technology to enrich the travel experience educationally. Encourage your older kids to read up on destinations beforehand or learn from apps and podcasts that delve into local history or culture. This not only prepares them for the trip but also enhances their engagement and enjoyment.

Backup Important Documents Digitally – A Must for Tech-Friendly Family Travel

Scan and save digital copies of important documents like passports, travel insurance, tickets, and reservations. Store them securely in the cloud (like Google Drive or Dropbox) so they are accessible from anywhere.

Encourage a Digital Detox

While technology is indispensable, encourage intervals of digital detox during your family vacation. This can help everyone truly engage with the environment and each other. Plan activities where tech is not required. Consider hiking, swimming, or exploring local markets, to balance the digital with real-life experiences.

Capture and Share the Memories

Lastly, use technology to capture and share your travel memories. Encourage your children to take photos or start a blog or vlog about their journey. Sharing their experiences on social media or personal blogs not only documents the trip but also allows them to express their creativity.

Making your family travel tech-friendly for older teenagers and twentysomethings can significantly enhance their travel experience. It keeps them connected, helps manage the logistics smoothly, and enriches their journey. Traveling as a multigenerational family is an excellent way to create memories everyone will remember forever. However, it is quite simple to pack your itinerary with all the different activities you want to do, as well as attractions you want to visit. While this may seem like the best way to create memorable moments, I highly recommend having a flexible itinerary while traveling with multiple generations. After all, you will all want a little breathing room to spend time on your own in between all those family moments. Today, I am sharing how to create a flexible itinerary for a family vacation that won’t have you missing out on the best of the best while exploring new destinations.

How to Create a Flexible Itinerary for a Family Vacation

How to Create a Flexible Itinerary for a Family Vacation

Start with Core Activities – An Easy Way to Create a Flexible Itinerary for Your Family Vacation

Identify a few must-do activities or sights that are important to your family. Or specifically appealing to the young adults in your group. These can serve as the pillars of your itinerary. Then the rest of your plans can be more fluid, as you are creating a flexible itinerary for your family vacation.

Make sure these are agreed upon in advance to avoid any last-minute disputes.

Check out my tips for planning a family vacation everyone will enjoy.

Allow for Personal Choices

Encourage your older children to pick activities or attractions that particularly interest them. Allowing each family member to choose a day’s activity or a particular destination can give everyone something special to look forward to. Plus, it ensures that all interests are catered to during the trip.

Plan Downtime

It’s important to not over-schedule. Young adults value their downtime just as much as their adventures. Scheduling free time daily gives everyone a chance to relax, explore on their own, or simply recharge. All three are especially valuable in preventing travel burnout.

This is the main reason why I always encourage families to create flexible itineraries while planning their vacations.

Be Prepared to Split Up – My Favorite Tip for How to Create a Flexible Itinerary for a Family Vacation

With older children, it’s feasible and often enjoyable to split up into smaller groups based on interest. For instance, while some may prefer a morning hike, others might want to explore local art galleries. This approach allows for personalized experiences within the safety net of the family.

Don’t be afraid to create flexible itineraries for your family vacation that cater to specific individuals or groups. These can be included as sub-sections of your main itinerary for your family vacation.

Utilize Technology

Make use of apps and tools that help manage itineraries flexibly. Tools like Google Maps for checking distances and travel times, or apps like CityMapper for public transport options. Most apps will help you adjust your plans on the go, depending on everyone’s energy levels and interests.

Check Local Event Calendars

Keep an eye on local events and festivals that might be happening during your visit. These can offer unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences that are worth altering your plans for, providing both fun and cultural immersion.

I always recommend creating a flexible itinerary for family vacations, so you can take advantage of as many of the local events as possible when you are in new destinations. All local events are perfect for immersing yourselves into the lives of the locals.

Keep the Lines of Communication Open

Maintain open lines of communication throughout the trip. Group chats can be an effective way to keep everyone updated about changes and plans. Especially if you are really keeping your itinerary flexible during your family vacation.

Regular check-ins are essential, especially if the group splits up or individuals take off for solo adventures.

Check out my tips for choosing the best accommodations for families with older kids while on vacation.

Embrace the Unexpected – An Excellent Tip for How to Create a Flexible Itinerary for a Family Vacation

How to Create a Flexible Itinerary for a Family Vacation

Part of the joy of travel is the unexpected discoveries along the way. Be open to deviating from your flexible itinerary if something interesting comes up. Whether it’s a local recommending a spot off the beaten path or stumbling upon an unexpected street performance, these experiences can often become the highlight of the trip.

Review Each Day

In the evening, it can be helpful to review the day’s experiences and discuss the next day’s plans. This daily check-in allows you to adjust your flexible itinerary based on everyone’s experiences and feedback. This ensures that the itinerary remains dynamic and responsive to the group’s needs.

Prioritize Experiences Over Perfection

Lastly, focus on creating memorable experiences rather than sticking to a perfect schedule. The goal of a family vacation, especially with older children, is to enjoy time together, explore new places, and grow through experiences. Not to adhere strictly to a plan.

Learning how to create a flexible itinerary for a family vacation encourages independence and meets diverse interests. Which makes for a more enjoyable and stress-free vacation for everyone. By planning with flexibility in mind, you allow space for personal growth, unexpected adventures, and quality family time, making your holiday truly unforgettable.

Traveling with older teenagers and twentysomethings presents unique challenges and opportunities. Especially when it comes to accommodations. The right lodging can make a significant difference in the enjoyment and comfort of your trip. Here’s how to choose the best accommodations for families with older kids that will keep everyone happy and maintain the peace during your family vacation.

Best Accommodations for Families with Older Kids

Best Accommodations for Families with Older Kids

Consider Space and Privacy Needs

As children grow into young adults, their need for privacy increases. When booking accommodations as a family with older kids, look for options that offer separate bedrooms or at least areas with some privacy. Apartments, suites, or hotel rooms with connecting doors can provide the perfect balance. They all allow family members to retreat to their own space when needed.

Look for Amenities That Appeal to Young Adults

Amenities can be a major draw, especially for young adults. When look for accommodations for families with older kids, I always search for amenities that include Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, a gym, or a lounge area where they can relax and socialize. These features are particularly appealing to older teenagers and twentysomethings. Plus, these amenities will enhance their experience significantly.

Check out these tips for planning a family vacation with older kids that everyone will love.

Strategic Location

Choose accommodations that are centrally located to the activities and attractions you plan to visit. Being close to public transportation, cafes, shops, and entertainment options can give older kids the freedom to explore on their own safely and conveniently.

Read Reviews from Similar Travelers

When selecting a place to stay, pay close attention to reviews. Especially those from families or groups with young adults. These reviews can provide insights into how well-suited the accommodation is for families like yours. Most reviews will highlight both the pros and cons from a similar perspective.

Consider Alternative Lodging Options – Perfect for Choosing the Best Accommodations for Families with Older Kids

Best Accommodations for Families with Older Kids - Turks and Caicos

Hotels are not the only option when choosing accommodations for families with older kids. Vacation rentals, hostels, and resorts can offer unique experiences that might be more appealing to young adults. These alternatives often provide more space and a different atmosphere from standard hotel rooms. These additional options can be more exciting for adventurous young adults.

Involve Them in the Decision Process

Allow your teens and twentysomethings to help choose the accommodations. Give them a list of criteria and let them research and present options. This involvement can make them feel more invested in your family vacation. Plus, they will be satisfied with the lodging choices since they helped pick them out.

Check out these secluded destinations for your next family vacation.

Flexible Booking Policies – A Must When Booking Accommodations as a Family with Older Kids

Look for accommodations with flexible booking policies. Plans can change, especially with young adults in your travel group. Places that offer free cancellation or modifications can save you from potential headaches if your itinerary shifts.

This is another reason why I always recommend purchasing travel insurance. After all, you never know what will come up right before your family vacation.

Safety First

Always prioritize safety. Ensure the accommodations and the neighborhood are safe. Particularly if your older children will be exploring on their own. Check crime rates and read up on the locality to ensure its suitable for family stays.

As your travel advisor, this is something I do every time I choose accommodations. So, you won’t need to worry about your family’s safety while on vacation.

Meal Options – A Big Consideration for Choosing the Best Accommodations for Families with Older Kids

Consider accommodations with kitchen facilities to keep everyone fed. Especially if your older kids love to grab a midnight snack.

Check-In/Check-Out Times

Finally, consider the logistics of check-in and check-out times. This is really important if you’re dealing with flight schedules. Early check-ins or late check-outs can be very convenient when traveling with a group and can make your travel experience much smoother.

Choosing the best accommodations for families with older kids is about balancing the need for independence with the desire for family bonding. By considering these factors, you can ensure that your lodging enhances your trip, keeping everyone comfortable, happy, and engaged.

Exploring the best national parks for grandparents and grandkids during a multigenerational vacation is one of the best ways to create lasting memories. There are quite a few family-friendly national parks. Many of those parks are packed with kid approved activities. You can hike along easy trails. Spot wildlife. Or enjoy a relaxing picnic while sharing stories. Today, I am sharing some of the best national parks for kids with you. So, get ready to discover stunning destinations that bring generations together to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids: Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures

Yellowstone National Park – An Amazing National Park for Grandparents and Grandkids

Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids: Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures - Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is one of the best national parks for grandparents and grandkids. This captivating national park offers real-life science lessons at every turn. And yet, your grandkids won’t realize they are learning something during your multigenerational vacation.

You can’t visit Yellowstone National Park and not take the time to watch Old Faithful erupt. There is no steep hiking required to reach this geyser. So, check out the eruption times for the day of your visit. Then watch the magic happen right in front of your eyes!

The grandkids will love participating in the Junior Ranger Program at Yellowstone. Help them complete the activities, so they can earn a badge.

Of course, you can’t skip past some of the other must-see destinations within this family-friendly national park. I recommend taking the time to check out the Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone Lake, and Mammoth Hot Springs.

Check out the best things to see in Yellowstone National Park for your next multigenerational vacation.

Acadia National Park

If you are looking for the best national park for kids on the east coast, I recommend Acadia National Park. This beautiful park offers mountain views combined with gorgeous views of the nearby ocean.

Wander around the carriage roads within this national park for grandparents and grandkids. No cars are allowed on these roads. So, they are perfect for walking and biking. Jordan Pond Path is another scenic trail that is perfect for little, and older, feet.

Kids of all ages will love searching for sea creatures while tide pooling at Bar Harbor. You can watch your grandkids having fun with the sea creatures, as you drink your coffee. Or you can get into the water with them to create even more memories.

If your grandkids are early risers, watch the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain. It’s an amazing way to start your day.

Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park is at the top of almost everyone’s list of destinations to visit. You may be tempted to skip this national park for this reason. However, as one of the best family friendly national parks in the world, you will regret that decision.

The South Rim is your best option for a multigenerational vacation. Everyone will love walking along the mostly flat and paved Rim Trail.

During a ride along Desert View Drive, you can stop at historical sites and scenic overlooks. And the kids will love riding the old-fashioned train from Williams to the canyon on the Grand Canyon Railway.

The Junior Ranger Program at the Grand Canyon is quite interactive. The kids will spend hours completing the activities to earn their badge.

When the kids want to purchase souvenirs to take home, venture over to Hopi House or Lookout Studio. They offer the best souvenirs.

And if you stay at the Grand Canyon until later in the evening, head to Mather Point. The sunsets there are incredible.

Great Smoky Mountains – One of the Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids

Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids: Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures - Waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains

When you are searching for the best national parks for grandparents and grandkids, the Great Smoky Mountains should be near the top of your list. After all, this is one of the most visited national parks in the US. Which isn’t surprising since it is full of waterfalls, wildlife, and wildflowers.

A walk along the paved trail to the Clingmans Dome Observation Tower will lead to amazing views of the park. There are benches at the top. So, you will have places to sit after this slight uphill trek.

The kids will love stepping back in time while visiting the Mountain Farm Museum. And you will all love seeing how people lived and worked back in the 1800s.

Plenty of deer and black bears are visible when you drive along Cades Cove Loop Road.

Other must-see spots within this family-friendly national park include Laurel Falls Trail and the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.

Check out these other multigenerational vacation ideas.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – An Excellent National Park for Grandparents and Grandkids

Sometimes you need to fly a little further during your multigenerational vacation to see an incredible national park. Over on the Big Island of Hawaii, you will find lots to see throughout Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This unique park is packed with cultural heritage, lava tubes, and volcanoes.

Start your visit by exploring the lava fields and steam vents along the Crater Rim Drive. Over at Nāhuku, walk through a real lava tube. I recommend taking flashlights with you to experience the best this lava tube has to offer.

Other must-see destinations within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park include the Halema’uma’u Crater Overlook, Jaggar Museum, and the Kilauea Visitor Center.

Everglades National Park

Animal lovers will want to spend hours within this national park for grandparents and grandkids. I recommend taking at least one of the ranger-led programs. These programs will allow you and your grandkids to learn quite a bit more about the Everglades and the wildlife that lives there.

Gators and birds are everywhere in the Everglades. And you can see many of them during the Shark Valley Tram Tour. The Anhinga Trail is another option if you don’t mind walking to see the local wildlife.

I recommend visiting the Eco Pond at dusk. Bring binoculars to see the different wildlife up close.

Shenandoah National Park

One of the best activities for grandparents and grandkids at Shenandoah National Park is driving along Skyline Drive. This ride offers more than one hundred miles of scenic overlooks.

If you, and your grandkids, prefer walking, venture over to the Limberlost Trail. This accessible loop will take you through a lush forest. Plus, there are other birdwatching, and wildflower walks you will enjoy for the peaceful moments they give you.

The hike to Dark Hollow Falls is a little steep. However, it is manageable for many people. And at night, head over to Big Meadows to stargaze or capture a firefly or two.

Check out the best destinations for multigenerational travel for 2025.

Rocky Mountain National Park

A visit to Rocky Mountain National Park is a breathtaking experience for people of all ages. I recommend starting your journey through this family-friendly national park by visiting the Alpine Visitor Center. It is full of educational exhibits that share what you need to know about different areas of this park.

If you are searching for something unique to do during your multigenerational vacation in the Rocky Mountains, let me recommend a drive along the Trail Ridge Road. It is one of the highest paved roads in the US. So, it will feel like you are driving on top of the world.

Walking along Bear Lake Loop will allow you to take numerous Instagram-worthy pictures. This loop is flat and only a mile long. Therefore, even your youngest grandchild should be able to walk it without a problem.

Other must-see destinations within this national park include Sprague Lake and Moraine Park.

Exploring national parks with your grandkids is more than just a vacation. It’s an opportunity to create stories that span generations. These national parks for grandparents and grandkids offer the perfect mix of scenic beauty, kid-friendly adventures, and accessible fun for everyone. Each national park will invite you to slow down, reconnect, and experience the magic of the outdoors.

Planning a family vacation with older teenagers or twentysomethings? You’re not alone. Many families are planning multigenerational vacations with older kids. And let me tell you, it’s a whole different ballgame than traveling with little kids! These young adults crave independence, adventure, and maybe even a little Wi-Fi. The good news? Well, with the right approach, you can create a vacation that’s equal parts relaxing, engaging, and memorable for everyone. Today, I am sharing a few of my favorite travel tips for families with young adults. My goal is to help your family connect and actually enjoy each other’s company while on vacations you all love.

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Start with Open Discussions

Begin the planning process by holding an open family meeting. Discuss potential destinations by considering everyone’s interests and bucket lists. This is the stage to brainstorm without restrictions or judgments. You might find surprising overlaps in interests or come up with a completely new travel idea that excites everyone.

Research Together

Assign research tasks according to each person’s interests. For example, one might look up adventure activities like scuba diving or mountain biking, while another might explore cultural sites or music festivals. This approach not only divides the workload but also ensures that each family member’s preferences are considered in the itinerary.

Utilize Technology

Leverage technology to make planning easier. Apps and websites like Pinterest, TripAdvisor, and Google Trips can help organize ideas and build a coherent plan. Creating a shared online document or a Pinterest board where everyone can pin ideas, itineraries, and accommodations can keep the process collaborative and transparent.

Vote on Major Decisions – Best Travel Tip for Families with Young Adults

When it comes to making major decisions like picking a destination or choosing between two major activities, take a democratic approach. Voting on options can help resolve differences fairly and ensures that everyone feels they have a say in the travel plans.

Assign Responsibilities

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Once the destination is decided, assign responsibilities based on individual strengths or interests. Let someone manage booking accommodations while another handles activity reservations or meal plans. This not only lightens the load for the planner but helps empower young adults by trusting them with important aspects of the travel arrangements.

Respect Their Input

When older teenagers and twentysomethings feel their opinions are valued, they’re more likely to engage positively throughout the trip. Respecting their input and incorporating their suggestions can lead to discovering unique experiences that might not have been your first choice but turn out to be trip highlights.

Keep Communication Lines Open

As the trip approaches, continue to keep communication open. Circumstances can change; interests may shift. Regular check-ins ensure that the plan remains relevant and exciting for everyone involved. Plus, it helps build anticipation for the adventure ahead.

Be Ready to Compromise – A Must-Use Travel Tip for Families with Young Adults

Finally, be ready to compromise. Balancing everyone’s wishes can be challenging, but flexibility is key to a harmonious family vacation. Sometimes you might have to prioritize one person’s preference over another, but if the overall plan is balanced, everyone can have a great time.

So, are you ready to apply these travel tips for families with young adults on your next vacation?

Planning a memorable family vacation where everyone can enjoy themselves can be a challenge. But in 2025, the best destinations for multigenerational travel are making it easier than ever to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Today, I am sharing some family friendly vacation destinations with you. These destinations offer sun-soaked beaches, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Basically, something for everyone in your family to enjoy, while creating lifelong memories. Let’s start exploring the top destinations that cater to multigenerational travelers.

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways

Alaska – Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Family Near a Glacier in Alaska

One of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 is Alaska. A vacation in Alaska promises adventures filled with discovery, shared experiences, and lasting memories.

There are quite a few options for how your family experiences this state. You can simply fly to one of the major cities. Or you can cruise to different ports.

If you choose the latter, I recommend small ship cruises. These cruise ships can reach areas where the larger cruise ships can’t reach. Plus, your family will receive more personalized experience options like kayaking near glaciers and guided shore excursions.

Other activities to consider during your family vacation in Alaska include dog sledding, wildlife viewing in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks, and guided tours of glaciers.

Another fabulous way to explore Alaska is to take a ride on the Alaska Railroad. This train travels almost five hundred miles throughout the state’s spectacular landscape. Your family can disembark at the numerous stops to participate in activities.

Check out these bucket list destinations in Alaska for your next family vacation.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are a dream destination for many travelers. So, if you are traveling with multiple generations, you might as well choose a dream destination for creating memories!

Once-in-a-lifetime adventures can be experienced during a vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Plus, I can help arrange family friendly and eco-friendly tours for your multigenerational vacation.

Consider a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about conservation as a family. Island hopping excursions allow everyone to see more of the islands, while exploring diverse ecosystems together.

Of course, you won’t want to skip snorkeling with sea lions and spending time with giant tortoises while on vacation with your family in the Galapagos Islands.

Use my travel guide to the Galapagos Islands for your multigenerational vacation.

Lisbon, Portugal

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Tram 28 in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a city that offers charm, cultural activities, and family friendly activities. Which is why it is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025.

I recommend starting with a ride on Tram 28 to check out the city’s neighborhoods. This is an excellent way to learn where restaurants and attractions are located throughout the city. After all, you never know when you will see something interesting to return to later.

The whole family will love spending time at Oceanário de Lisboa. This is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. You should plan on spending at least a few hours there, as you all check out the marine life.

A family friendly Fado show is an excellent way to listen to traditional Portuguese music during your vacation.

Banff, Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from the US to experience one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations in 2025. Banff, Canada offers year-round family fun. And this year, there are more family oriented outdoor activities within Banff National Park.

The entire family will love riding the Banff Gondola. Check out incredible views during your ride. There are also interactive exhibits that will capture everyone’s attention.

Everyone should be able to walk the trails at Johnston Canyon. These are easy scenic walks that are ideal for families.

If you want to see this area of Canada from a different perspective, go canoeing on Lake Louise. No matter what you do during your family vacation in Banff, keep an eye out for bears, elk, and mountain goats. Wildlife is everywhere in this area, so it is almost guaranteed you will see something.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. Although, you can visit anywhere in this country with your family and have an amazing time.

If you want to start your vacation in Sydney on a more relaxed note, I recommend taking a Sydney Harbour cruise. This is an excellent way to see the city’s sights from a different perspective. Plus, you get to relax after your long flight.

While younger kids may not appreciate the cultural aspects of the Sydney Opera House, you should still take the time for a behind the scenes tour. If a performance is happening during your visit, the grandparents can enjoy it one night. Or the grandparents can watch the kids while the parents attend.

A day at the beach is a must while on a family vacation in Australia. Bondi Beach is one of the best beaches for families. While you can spend the entire day on the sand building sandcastles, there are other options. Consider a coastal walk. Or take the family-friendly surfing lessons that are offered.

Check out these other family friendly activities in Australia for your vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Family Walking Around the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

There are sixty-three national parks to visit in the US. However, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best family friendly vacation destinations. This is because there are plenty of activities your family can do outdoors during your vacation.

I recommend taking one of the wildlife safaris to see bison, elk, and bears. The guides will ensure you don’t miss any of the wildlife that lives within this national park.

The kids will love the engaging activities offered with the junior ranger programs. And parents and grandparents will love learning along with the kids or sharing the knowledge they already have.

Some hikes in Yellowstone National Park may be too difficult for older adults or those with limited mobility. Thankfully, you can drive to sights like the Old Faithful Geyser. You will need to time your visit properly though, or you will miss the eruption of this geyser.

Costa Rica – Unique Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Eco-adventures and nature-filled experiences will bring your family closer during a vacation in Costa Rica. The activity that should be at the top of your list during your family vacation in Costa Rica is visiting Arenal Volcano National Park. You can hike along the trails there before soaking in the natural hot springs.

Depending on the time of year you visit, your family may be able to witness sea turtle nesting in Tortuguero National Park. This unforgettable moment happens between July and October each year. However, peak activity occurs between July and August.

Guided wildlife tours are available in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Ziplining adventures are another option in this area of Costa Rica.

The kids will beg for time at the beach during your Costa Rica vacation. The beach Manuel Antonio is your best option. The kids can play in the gentle waves, while the adults relax on the sand.

Barcelona, Spain

Is your family searching for diverse activities for your multigenerational vacation in 2025? If you are, I recommend adding Barcelona, Spain to your list of places to visit. Barcelona offers a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and beachside fun.

Adults can wander around Park Güell to see the whimsical designs of Gaudi. The kids can climb and play during this time, so they won’t be bored as the adults marvel at what they see.

When everyone gets hungry, I recommend going to La Boqueria Market. This market has a lively atmosphere. And you can try many of the local delicacies, which ensures you will no longer be hungry. Oh, and those samples may get your kids to try new foods they wouldn’t try back home.

If your family has the energy to stay out later one night, head over to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The light and water show at this fountain will captivate the attention of everyone in your family.

There will be plenty of time for you to lounge on a beach while on a family vacation in Barcelona. However, the most family friendly beach is Barceloneta Beach. So, you may want to choose to visit that one the most during your vacation.

Check out the best things to do in Barcelona during your multigenerational vacation.

Hawaii

Multigenerational Family on the Beach While on Vacation

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for family vacations. However, it is important you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your multigenerational vacation in 2025. I usually recommend Maui and Oahu. But we can discuss which islands will best fit your family’s needs.

Pearl Harbor Memorial is usually one of the favorite attractions for a Hawaiian family vacation. This tour will share many invaluable insights into that historical time.

Interactive experiences showcasing Hawaiian traditions can be seen at the Polynesian Cultural Center. And there is no better way to explore the Molokini Crater than going on a snorkeling adventure.

Surfing is a popular activity in Waikiki, and the rest of Hawaii. Adventurous members of your family will want to take lessons, while the others sit back and watch.

Rome, Italy

Imagine visiting a destination where you can experience the past each day, while enjoying delicious cuisine in between each stop. It is completely possible when you choose to take your multigenerational vacation in Rome, Italy. Plus, this best family friendly vacation destination promises enhanced guided tours and family friendly museums for 2025.

I recommend having me secure your spot for a Colosseum tour while I am planning your multigenerational vacation. This will ensure you can skip the line when you arrive. And you will get to enjoy an interactive tour filled with gladiator stories that will thrill each family member.

I can do the same for Vatican City, so you don’t spend most of your time waiting in line. This will give you more time to admire the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

A bike ride through the Villa Borghese Gardens will allow you to see a beautiful spot in the city. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch with you to extend your time in these gardens.

There are plenty of cooking classes you can take while on a family vacation in Rome. If your kids are old enough, you can all take one together to learn how to make fresh pasta.

London, England

Harry Potter fans will love going on vacation to London, England. So, if your kids are hesitant to spend time with you and their grandparents, tell them you are going on a Harry Potter adventure. Their moods will change dramatically. Especially when you have me schedule a Harry Potter Studio Tour for your family.

I can also arrange tours of London, so you can all see Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Kensington Gardens. Over at the Tower of London, take the interactive tours to ensure history is brought to life for your family.

A day of rest can be experienced in Hyde Park. You can all enjoy a family picnic or go paddle boating.

Orlando, Florida – Popular Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

You must have known that Orlando would be on this list of best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. After all, it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios.

There are new attractions and activities coming to both these theme parks in 2025. Grandparents will feel nostalgic, as they take the grandkids on the rides they took you on when you were little. Teens will love the thrilling ride options. And you will all stand and wave, as characters walk by during the parades.

Over at Discovery Cove, you can swim with dolphins and snorkel in tropical lagoons. Creating memories will be easy when you take the time to visit with the marine life at Discovery Cove.

There are plenty of nearby attractions to consider when you take a family vacation in Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is one of those attractions. This is an excellent option for anyone who dreams of flying to the moon one day.

Check out these amazing things to do in Orlando during your next multigenerational vacation.

When it comes to planning a memorable vacation that caters to all ages, the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 offer something for everyone. These destinations create opportunities for families to bond, learn, and relax together. Whether your family prefers cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, these family friendly vacation spots ensure every generation has an unforgettable experience. I recommend considering these remarkable destinations to create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Best Family Vacation Destinations for 2025: Top Places for Adventure, Culture, and Fun

Japan – Best Unique Destination for 2025

Best Family Vacation Destinations for 2025: Top Places for Adventure, Culture, and Fun - Tokyo Japan

Japan is quickly rising to the top of the list for best family vacation destinations for 2025. Part of this is due to all the buzz around the Osaka Expo 2025. Of course, you also can’t go wrong with trips to lesser-known regions like Tohoku and Kyushu.

During your family vacation in Japan, you can spend time at the above-mentioned expo. However, there are so many other activities your family will love to do.

Start with a visit to Tokyo Disney and Universal Studios Japan. Comparing these two theme parks to their US counterparts will really get your family members talking. And voicing their opinions.

Kids of all ages will love visiting TeamLab Planets in Tokyo. It is an interactive digital arts museum that will keep everyone busy, as they create works of art.

Over in historic Kyoto, you will visit golden temples and participate in a traditional tea ceremony. If you are lucky, everyone in your group will put a smile on their face, as you make them dress in a kimono for the day. Make sure you take pictures, or you will have trouble proving it happened!

Don’t skip past the beaches in Okinawa. They are perfect for snorkeling and glass-bottom boat rides.

Greece – Best Island Destination for 2025

Mythology and island escapes await when you choose a family vacation in Greece. This country is full of history, stunning landscapes, and friendly locals. Add in the sustainable tourism and it is easy to see why Greece is one of the top travel destinations this year.

On the mainland, you can explore the city of Athens. Take the time to stop at the Acropolis to explore the ancient ruins. And don’t be surprised when your kids have fun learning about Greek mythology.

There are plenty of islands to visit in Greece. Santorini and Crete are perfect for when you need a day or two at the beach. I can help you find the perfect family-friendly resort right on the water.

You can easily island hop to other destinations from those two islands. Family-friendly islands like Naxos and Paros are usually only a ferry ride away.

One of the best ways to experience Greek culture during your family vacation is by taking a traditional Greek cooking class. You can introduce the kids, and yourself, to new flavors and foods, while learning how to prepare a new favorite meal back home.

What Greece offers every type of traveler.

Costa Rica

Thrilling outdoor adventures are everywhere down in Costa Rica. Which is why it is on my list of best destinations for 2025.

It is simple to spend hours outside each day during your family vacation in Costa Rica. Everyone will love hiking around the volcano before soaking in the hot springs in Arenal Volcano National Park.

Monkeys and sloths will be waiting for you near the suspension bridges within the Monteverde Cloud Forest. And if you time your vacation right, you can spot sea turtles nesting in Tortuguero National Park.

Check out this 10-day itinerary in Costa Rica to see what is possible for your next family vacation.

Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from home to reach one of the best places to visit in 2025. Banff and Vancouver are two destinations that are perfect for families of all ages. Especially since you can choose to spend time in the vibrant cities or out in nature.

Active families will love hiking and canoeing in Banff National Park. Or skiing on the slopes in Whistler.

And if you are searching for a calmer family vacation experience, Vancouver’s Capilano Suspension Bridge will take you high above the forest canopy. The views up there are amazing.

I also recommend vacationing in Toronto and Niagara Falls. The iconic landmarks in those two destinations are kid friendly. And you will still make memories you will cherish forever.

South Africa – Best Safari Destination for 2025

Best Family Vacation Destinations for 2025: Top Places for Adventure, Culture, and Fun - Elephants in South Africa

There are quite a few bucket list destinations in this world. However, South Africa always seems to top the list of best destinations each year and it is no different for 2025. So, if you are interested in heading out on safari with your family, South Africa is your go-to destination.

I highly recommend visiting Kruger National Park. I can arrange for you to go on safari there to see the elephants, lions, giraffes, and other wildlife.

Another option in South Africa is walking alongside adorable penguins at Boulders Beach. Or ride the cable car to the top of Cape Town’s Table Mountain to experience the gorgeous views.

Taking a road trip along the Garden Route is an excellent way to explore caves, beaches, and wildlife sanctuaries.

Check out these gorgeous African destinations for your next family vacation.

Portugal

One of the most welcoming European countries is Portugal. The locals are friendly, which is perfect when traveling with children.

This best destination for 2025 offers plenty of attractions and activities for families of all sizes. Start exploring the city’s charming neighborhoods by riding Lisbon’s Tram 28. Then head into the Douro Valley to take a river cruise through Portugal’s infamous wine region.

Relaxing days on the beach are possible when you head over to the Algarve. The kids can swim and build sandcastles, while you read a book or simply stare out at the nearby landscape.

And you won’t want to miss feeling like you are in a fairytale setting during your family vacation in Portugal. Create your own magical stories while visiting attractions like Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira.

Norway

The dancing Northern Lights are what makes Norway one of the best destinations for family travel in 2025. Of course, you need to plan your vacation just right if you want to see this magical attraction in the nighttime sky.

I recommend working with a travel advisor like myself to plan your trip, so you don’t miss out on the spectacular light show. While you can view the Northern Lights from many places in Norway, I highly recommend viewing them from Tromsø. If you do, it will be a once in a lifetime experience you will never forget.

While in Oslo, step back in time to learn about real Viking history at the Viking Ship Museum. Although, you may prefer to venture out on one of the world’s most scenic train journeys.

The Flåm Railway Ride will take your family on a twelve-mile-long adventure in Norway. The train passes by waterfalls, mountains, rivers, and small farms. There are also twenty tunnels you will pass through during this adventure.

Oh, and if you want to see puffins during your family vacation in Norway, allow me to book a fjords cruise for you. This will allow you to see cute puffins, seals, and even waterfalls up close.

Check out my travel guide for Norway before you book your next family vacation.

Scotland

Best Family Vacation Destinations for 2025: Top Places for Adventure, Culture, and Fun - Victoria Street in Edinburgh, Scotland

There are plenty of castles to explore in Scotland. And all that medieval charm is what makes this country one of the best destinations for 2025.

Harry Potter enthusiasts will want to participate in Edinburgh’s Harry Potter Walking Tour. All the locations on this tour inspired J.K. Rowling as she was writing the books.

Of course, you can’t visit Scotland and not take the time to search for the legendary Nessie. A loch ness boat tour is one of the best ways to spot this creature. Just get your camera ready, because Nessie is quick, and she won’t stay above the water for too long! 😉

And magical scenery is everywhere at the Isle of Skye Fairy Pools. I recommend hiking through the area to see the waterfalls and clear blue pools. You may even want to create a story of your own to tell, as you are experiencing this magical destination.

Check out this itinerary for Scotland to see what your family can do during a vacation there.

Thailand

If Thailand has long been on your list of places to see, you will be happy to know it is one of the best destinations for 2025. And why wouldn’t it be with its welcoming community and delicious street foods.

I recommend starting your adventure at Chiang Mai’s Elephant Sanctuaries. This is one of the ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand. And it is one of the best places to learn more about the conservation efforts being made for this species.

A boat ride in Bangkok will allow you to shop at the floating markets. You will be amazed at all the local treats and souvenirs you can purchase from these floating markets. Just don’t go overboard or you may find yourself searching for an additional suitcase for your trip home.

Island hopping is an excellent way to see the surrounding islands of Thailand. Although, Phuket will be your favorite if you want to spend a few days at the beach.

Peru

Andean adventures and mystical ruins are everywhere in Peru. Those two things make this one of the best places to visit in 2025. Plus, there are new routes leading to Machu Picchu. This means it is even easier to reach this cultural destination while on vacation in Peru.

When you aren’t visiting Machu Picchu, you may want to spend time in Lima. There is a nighttime fountain show there called the Magic Water Circuit. The kids will love staying up late to watch it. And you will love it because it is family friendly.

Another popular activity in Peru for families is visiting Lake Titicaca’s Floating Islands. These islands are made entirely of reeds, making them quite unique.

Iceland

Another magical destination for family vacations in 2025 is Iceland. This country is packed with family-friendly activities, as well as dramatic landscapes.

Start your vacation in Iceland with a drive along the Golden Circle. This is an excellent way to see many of the best geysers, waterfalls, and volcanic craters in the country.

One of the best ways to see the wildlife in Iceland is to take a tour. There are a few puffin and whale watching tours that I recommend for families. I can add the one that is perfect for your family to your itinerary, as I am planning your vacation.

Families with older kids will want to venture out on a glacier ice cave adventure while on vacation in Iceland. The ice caves create a fabulous winter wonderland experience.

One thing you can’t miss doing while in Iceland on a family vacation is soaking in one of the geothermal hot springs. Blue Lagoon is the most popular place to go. However, there are other hot springs that may fit your family’s needs more. We will discuss your options while I plan your family vacation.

Use my travel guide for your family vacation in Iceland.

No matter what kind of adventure your family craves, these best destinations for 2025 offer something for everyone. You can spend days exploring ancient ruins, spotting wildlife on safari, or relaxing on a soft sandy beach. The world is full of incredible places just waiting to be discovered. Are you ready to finally go on a family vacation in the southeast? I didn’t spend any time in the southeast for a couple years, but I changed that last year. And I’m so glad I did, because I missed their southern hospitality! You may want the sun and the sand during your southeast vacation. But don’t discount the historic sites in the southeast. You can easily add a few of them to your itinerary in between all those beach days! Today, I am sharing a few of the must-see historic sites you can add to your family vacation in the southeast. I guarantee you will make a few memories at these sites to add to your fun in the sand.

Family Vacation in the Southeast? Make Memories at These Historic Sites

Old Fort Jackson in Savannah, Georgia

Family Vacation in the Southeast? Make Memories at These Historic Sites - Old Fort Jackson in Savannah, Georgia

If you are truly a history buff, you must take a family vacation in Savannah. It is one of the most historical cities in this part of the country.

Old Fort Jackson happens to be the oldest brick fortification in the entire state that is still in one piece. You will find this fort on the Savannah River. It is best to take a tour of the fort and the surrounding area during your family vacation in the southeast.

Consider visiting these Stranger Things filming locations during your family vacation in Georgia.

Roosevelt’s Little White House State Historic Site in Warm Springs, Georgia

A visit to this historic attraction in Georgia will have you learning quite a bit about President Roosevelt and the town.

The spring waters here are said to have healing qualities. So, take the time to soak in one of the springs, while talking and laughing with your family.

When you are not soaking in nearby springs, you can check out the Memorial Fountain, the Walk of Flags and Stone, and the Unfinished Portrait.

Check out these other incredible destinations in the southeast for a family vacation.

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Park in Hodgenville, Kentucky

As you are considering a family vacation in the southeast, you will find yourself wondering which areas are worthy of your time. Well, Hodgenville, Kentucky may not be at the top of your list at first. Until you realize that Abraham Lincoln was born there.

You will find a replica of the house that Abraham Lincoln grew up in at 2995 Lincoln Farm Road. This replica currently serves as a memorial building.

The Sinking Spring is near Lincoln’s childhood home. That spring is what brought water to Lincoln’s home all those years ago.

Elkmont Ghost Town in Gatlinburg, Tennessee – Unique Family Vacation in the Southeast

Family Vacation in the Southeast? Make Memories at These Historic Sites - Elkmont Ghost Town in Tennessee

Elkmont Ghost Town is quite the historical destination in Tennessee. And since it is supposedly haunted, your family will quickly put it near the top of your list of places to consider for your family vacation in the southeast.

The Little River Lumber Company turned Elkmont into a logging town. And then vacation homes were eventually constructed on this land.

However, once the national park was established, the residents needed to obtain leases on the homes they owned. Since the leases expired back in 1992, many of the homes have been left vacant. That turned the area into its own little ghost town. While a few houses were demolished, others are in the process of being restored and renovated for people to see.

Check out these other ghost towns in the southeast.

The Cabildo in New Orleans, Louisiana

The Cabildo was the colonial government building constructed by the Spanish government back in the late 1700s. Currently, it is home to the Louisiana State Museum.

Of course, The Cabildo isn’t the only interesting place to see during a family vacation in the southeast. Other attractions on your family vacation itinerary should include Mardi Gras World, Jackson Square, and the French Market.

Don’t forget to stroll around the different quarters. And eat beignets by the dozen!

The Greatest Gift: Time Together During Fun Family Adventures

Remember, the cost of not taking these trips isn’t measured in dollars, but in missed moments and unshared experiences. While coordinating multigenerational travel may seem challenging, the alternative, letting these precious opportunities slip away, is far more costly.

Today’s busy world rarely gives us chances to truly connect across generations. These adventures create spaces where phones are forgotten, stories are shared, and bonds are strengthened. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Create it now by taking the time to plan a family adventure with the people you love the most.

Why Book with a Travel Advisor for Your Next Family Adventure?

Tracy Schatz

A skilled travel advisor like myself will become your family’s greatest ally in creating these multigenerational experiences:

  • I understand the unique needs of different age groups
  • I can arrange special accommodations for elderly family members
  • I know which resorts offer programs for children while adults enjoy their own activities
  • I handle the complex logistics of getting everyone where they need to be

The Time is Now

Here’s the truth every family eventually faces. These opportunities don’t last forever. Children grow up and build their own lives. Grandparents age and the window for creating these shared experiences gradually closes. Don’t let “we should do this someday” become “I wish we had done this while we could.”

The magic happens in these shared moments. When grandfather and grandson spot their first whale together. As three generations summit a gentle hill for a spectacular view. Or when the whole family gathers for a meal after a day of varied adventures. These are the stories your family will tell for generations to come.

Remember: The memories you create together today become your family’s stories tomorrow. Don’t wait to start writing them.

Ready to plan your family’s next great adventure? Contact me today so I can create an experience that brings your whole family together while accounting for everyone’s needs and abilities. The perfect time for family adventure isn’t someday – it’s now.
